5 classic british feel good comedypaulyb88 | 09/08/2010 | See all paulyb88's reviews (1)I write this before the product has been released, but in my view it is well overdue. The program gave us 4 brilliant main characters in Tom, Barbara, Jerry, and (my favourite) Margot. Each one of these charicature the individual personas of the middle class of the era to the detail. Good for nostalgia viewing! The relationships between all 4 grow through the series, making the humour and general life so relatable. For anyone who will watch this for the first time, I'm positive that the Tom/Margot relationship will have you laughing 50% of the time and cringing the other 50%. Some priceless, timeless moments.I'm not sure if this would appeal to the mass american market since it mainly aims towards Britain-post 70s culture, but for the clicheed "good old family fun" there would be nothing better. There are the up's and down's, laughs and occasional unexpected emotional twist, but you're left with a good feeling throughout. I would have loved to have seen another 4 series! But as is the case with all classic British comedies (Fawlty Towers as a prime example) it is always better to leave the audience wanting. Although, I wouldn't have minded a Christmas special, to see how the different lives would have progressed at the end of the final season. The "Many Modes of Margot" featurette is bound to be a great feature - Penelope Keith was nothing short of outstanding in her role, and this is sure to raise a smile or few!!Can't wait for this to be released, and it's already on pre-order for me!
