Frustrated with baby-sitting on yet another weekend night, Sarah - a teenager with a active imagination - summons the Goblins from her favourite book, "Labyrinth", to take her baby step-brother away. When little Toby actually disappears, Sarah must follow him into the world of the fairy tale to rescue him, in hope that their loyalty isn't just another illusion in a place where nothing is as it seems!

'Labyrinth' is a major fantasy feature film with a cast of incredible creatures created by The Jim Henson Creature Shop, and produced by 'Star Wars' director George Lucas. Starring rock legend David Bowie, who performs five original songs, 'Labyrinth' is the perfect family film combining music, adventure, comedy and fantasy.

A reasonable tale, although considering Terry Jones has a writing credit there isn't a vast amount of Pythonesque humour. The perfomances are bearable - and once the young eye candy enters the magical land, things become a lot more enjoyable. There are a few fun puzzles, and David Bowie is less wooden than usual. However, this was never one of my favourite films as a kid, there are plenty of lulls in the action, and you can see the sticks. Still, compared to the current crop it's still a pretty engaging tale - and not a bad way to while away a couple of hours at home.

Wish I could give it more stars!

I love this film. I watched it over and over and over again as a kid, and i find any excuse to watch it now (because i'm ill, because it's a bank holiday, because it's a sunday, because the day ends in a y) any excuse will do.
The songs are fantastic and the puppets amazing! And i have to admit that i' not entirely sure that i wouldn't have run off with jareth, had i been in sarah's position. A fantastic film that i love always, and my daughter now loves too. Buy it, buy it, buy it!

I have grown up with this movie from when I was very young and still this has to be one of my all time favourites.

My parents loved this film so much my younger brother is actually called Jareth!!!

It's the story of a girl, her baby brother, the Goblin King 'Jareth' and a whole load of magical creatures all situated within a Lybyrinth. If your a fan of David Bowie then this is a must buy as the song he sings for this movie are great!!!

A great film to have for a rainy day.

A perfect childhood film. Flawless and Magical.

Labyrinth is, no doubt, one of the most outstanding fantasy movies ever made. It is superbly acted throughout, with the wonderful talents of Jennifer Connelly, who plays a spoilt girl called Sarah, who takes too many things for granted. She is very beautiful and such a brilliant actress, and she holds the story together well with her convincing transformation from a young dreamy girl with her head in the clouds, to a mature, unselfish young lady, who learns to become independent. David Bowie is very good as the Goblin King. He plays the villain so well; you don't know whether to love him or hate him. The story unfolds with Sarah wishing her bratty little stepbrother, Toby, away to the Kingdom of the Goblins. However, her wish really is granted, and Sarah then faces the biggest challenge in her life; to complete the Labyrinth surrounding the Goblin Castle, within thirteen hours. If she completes it within the time, she will get Toby back. However, if she doesn't, Toby will be transformed into a Goblin, and will have to live in the Goblin Kingdom for eternity as a slave. With such an inventive and promising plot, they couldn't go wrong. The magic begins from the very start; the magnificent and beautiful set pieces don't fail to dazzle and enchant. The labyrinth itself is definitely a magical experience; full of so many mesmerising sets, such as the bog of eternal stench and the oubliette's. The songs are enjoyable and memorable, and I recommend the soundtrack if you enjoy this film. The whole film is a fantastic visual feast, but the best scene has to be the ballroom masquerade; the costumes, the music, the tone and speed of the whole scene makes it such an unforgettable cinematic experience. The characters we encounter throughout the Labyrinth are a delight, including Ludo the lovable ogre, Hoggle the stubborn and fierce Goblin, and Sir Didymus and his stead Ambrosius. Labyrinth is certainly a magnificent fantasy experience, which will have you nostalgic and will leave you feeling warm inside.

 Once upon a time...

Ahhh, this one takes me back. 'Labyrinth' is a timeless gem of a fantasy film full of catchy songs, wonderful characters, magic, innocence and David Bowie. Back in 1986 I was instantly enraptured by the story of Sarah (an extremely young looking Jennifer Connolly) and her efforts to rescue her little brother from the clutches of Jareth the Goblin King. In these days of CGI overkill the film still astounds with its wealth of imagination and creativity and the creature design work by Jim Henson Workshop is as jaw-droppingly stupendous as it was back in '86. Who can fail to not be swept away by the wonderful array of monsters - the adorable Ludo, Hoggle, the hilarious Sir Didymus and, my personal favourite, the little worm. Sure, Bowie at times redefines high camp but is perfectly suited to play Jareth, surrounded by his horde of disgusting goblin henchmen. The film was the last film to be directed by the hugely talented Jim Henson and provides a perfect memory of his unalloyed genius. 20 years on it has lost none of its original charm and I'm sure children, young and old will continue to be as enchanted by this film as I was for many years to come. The action is superbly staged, the tone is perfectly pitched between laughs and frights and you're sure to be humming the songs long after the film's finished. All together now - 'You remind me of the babe....'
