Top 100 DVD Reviewer

A classic telling of Delderfield's story, made by the BBC in the very early 1980's. John Duttine leads a great cast as the shell shocked Powlett-Jones as he takes on a teaching position at a country public school. The series tells of his ups and downs as he endures both professional and personal triumphs and tragedies. I remember watching this when originally broadcast and it quickly became compulsive viewing. Charles Kay's performance stands out in particular, and Frank Middlemass is just as good as the kindly headmaster Algy Herries. This offers great value for over ten hours of viewing and is well worth having in your DVD collection.
