I avoided this show for quite a while until I saw a couple of episodes as part of in-flight entertainment in 2010 and immediately became hooked.

Outnumbered is a part scripted, part improvised awarding winning show about the lives of two parents (Claire Skinner and Hugh Dennis) and their three children as they go about their daily lives. Guy Jenkins and Andy Hamilton (the directors) have said that the scenes with the children are improvised to give the show a sense of realism. This is something that has made this show so popular....it rings true to life! Thne way the family interact, what the children and adults do, it all seems very realistic.

The acting is top notch and the children really do steal the show. This is great and is really worth watching. I am sure that it will become a flag ship show and will remain popular amoung audiences for years to come.

Until a few months ago, I had always avoided this sitcom, thinking that it would be yet another unrealistic, cliched sitcom about family life with wooden acting, and an unbelievable script/storyline. But after getting numerous recommendations from friends I decided to watch a few episodes, and was instantly compelled to buy this boxset of all of the series (so far)!!
This show is brilliant, the acting can be a little flawed here and there (only due to the children being so young), but the script and the storyline are so well observed that it would be easy to mistake this sitcom for reality TV,
The show is part-improvised by it's cast which works extremely well and really gives it a genuinely natural feel and more chemisry between the actors. The beauty of the show and a lot of the laughs come from the two youngest children - Karen and Ben - whose innocence and naivety is truly hilarious at times and cause their parents a lot of trouble too!
This is the freshest take on modern family life to come out in years (possibly ever?) and it is a real shame it is not promoted more by the BBC as it could be a lot bigger than it is. If you have children yourself, I can guarantee you will love this, but to be honest I think anyone can enjoy this show as anyone can relate to it.
Truly a British comedy gem.
9 out of 10.
