The bald-headed buffoon with a head like an orange, attempts to broaden his beautiful Manc mind by traversing the globe in search of the new seven wonders of the world, experiencing some of the many delights that foreign cultures have to offer, from extreme naked yoga to scorpions on a stick!

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are outraged that Karl has written off the Seven Wonders claiming they're all "a bit s**t" having never seen any of them with his own eyes. They've thrown down the gauntlet to send him around the globe to force him out of his comfort zone. Stephen wants the experience to broaden Karl's mind and change his outlook on the world. Ricky wants Karl to hate every minute of it for his own amusement.

Despatched on what many would term a journey of a lifetime, the 'little Englander' will be putting his misgivings to one side as Karl finds out for himself what the fuss is about. He will travel to the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Petra in Jordan, Machu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Taj Mahal in India and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Meanwhile Gervais and Merchant will be keeping a watchful eye from London, monitoring every step of Pilkington's journey.

 Side Achingly Funny

I don't write many reviews but need to redress the ridiculous 1 star review seen below.
Incredibly dry witted, yet genuinely not enjoying himself. Unintelligent Karl is certainly not.
An Idiot? Perhaps.
Hilariously funny? YES!
Incredible lateral observations; as true as they are ridiculous.

Who else would suggest a man took 22yrs to complete the Taj Mahal just to "keep himself busy"?
And when asked what he thinks of India overall-"I hate it"

Great deadpan delivery.
Hail Pilkington. The funniest man alive.

Brilliant stuff.

 Brilliant, Britishness reigns supreme

The last laugh is on Karl. What a wonderful show - I have seen some of these wonders, luckily without RG. Karl is superbly British, honest and polite. I think Karl is the 8th Wonder...

 Yawn

I don't know what the point of this show is exactly...Watching a pretend moron travel the globe doing nothing but complain and whine whilst his puppet master and sidekick dream up predictable ways of stretching said moron's patience sounds great right? It's not, it's dull, embarrassing, repetitive and just not funny.

I get that Gervais and Merchant find Karl incredibly amusing, and when they were doing XFM and the podcasts, it was a great formula. Unfortunately, this whole thing seems to be set up for Gervais' own personal amusement at the expense of the witless Pilkington. It is entirely unconvincing, and left me agitated...

...Saying that, I think Gervais' brand of comedy has declined as his ego has expanded, and can't stand his stand up either. Maybe this is one for the hardcore fans?

Blunt, Twisted Logic From An Unwittingly Witty Man

Some of the most significant man made structures the world has ever seen, scrutinised and analysed by one of the most unwittingly funny people ever put to screen. There has not been a TV series I can recall that has made me laugh as much as this did. Every moment of this light hearted travel documentary just aches your sides more and more, yet subversly you feel sympathetic towards him. A lovable character, a lovable series and just plain comic genius. 10/10
