Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an infected zone.

Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures... A jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss' daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.

 Emphasis.

The emphasis of this film isn't on the monsters,as some people seem to think it is, it's on the people that they effect, and how they effect them.
Monsters isn't a visual effects filled film, if you want that go and watch Avatar or Resident evil: Afterlife. But if you're into films that aren't just some Odd Hippo-Giraffe-Jellyfish thing but has a decent storyline, then watch this.

 A monster hit.....

Superb cinematography, solvent acting, and a movie score that binds this film together, made this one of the best films I have seen in a long time, and I wouldn't have any trouble watching it again. I simply loved everything about this movie. Hollywood eat your heart out. If your looking for a movie that isn't over laden with special effects, but instead offers you a decent storyline, then Monsters won't let you down.

 Almost on par with Skyline!

I watched the whole film to come to the conclusion nothing actually ever happened. This is the story of 2 people whos aim is to get through the "infected zone" between Mexico and America to get home after getting stranded in Mexico. But nothing actually happens? I wouldnt even say it had mild peril. Seriously theres nothing going on. A little ramble through the woods with a few dodgy noises, couple of dead bodies and some crumpled buildings. The end.

 Sheer waste of money!!!!!

How this film could have got such great ratings from mainstream critics like EMPIRE and the DAILY MIRROR is beyond me. I watch a hell of a lot of films stretching all genres although action is probably my least favourite. This film had pretty much no action whatsoever which you would think would be great for someone like me, however this is not the case. Apart from being told what the blurb on the back of the case tells you during the film, nothing happens. The director makes you feel no empathy whatsoever for the two main characters and their acting is very two dimensional. I feel like I have been tricked and left wondering how this film is labelled unique and original when all i see is a plot in which nothing happens and you are only enlightened by the odd still image. I feel like the mainstream critics have been paid off to write good reviews and unfortunately people like me listen to their out of this world claims. 90 mins of my life that i will never get back. Outraged.
