Prepare to be corrupted and depraved once more as Nucleus Films releases the definitive guide to the Video Nasties phenomenon - one of the most extraordinary and scandalous eras in the history of British film. For the first time ever on DVD, trailers to all 72 films that fell foul of the Director of Public Prosecutions are featured with specially filmed intros for each title in a lavish three-disc collector's edition box-set, alongside a brand new documentary - Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship And Videotape.

Disc One: Presents the 39 titles which were successfully prosecuted in UK courts and deemed liable to deprave and corrupt.

Disc Two: Presents the 33 titles that were initially banned, but then subsequently acquitted and removed from the DPP's list.

Disc Three: This era-defining documentary features interviews with filmmakers Ruggero Deodato ('Cannibal Holocaust') Neil Marshall ('The Descent', 'Doomsday'), Christopher Smith ('Severance', 'Black Death') and MP Graham Bright as well as rare archive footage featuring James Ferman (director of the BBFC 1975-1999) & Mary Whitehouse. Taking in the explosion of home video, the erosion of civil liberties, the introduction of draconian censorship measures, hysterical press campaigns and the birth of many careers born in blood and videotape, West's documentary also reflects on the influence this peculiar era still exerts on us today.

The only thing that needs to be said, is this is a must for any horror collector. Great set, great price and way better than watching some of the Nasties on there own.

 Interesting and fun

I think the documentary was good, but I think they could have dug deeper in the archives of TV-footage from the era. Would have been fun to see more interviews, dabates and stuff from the good old days. They also could have found more critical voices and oppinions in the matter, cause after a while it turns a bit unidirectional.
I also missed information on the specific films, but that I got loads of on the other two discs with the introductios to the trailers. Very satisfying information and trivia about avery film on the list, by knowledgeable people.
A must-have for those interested in the history of the video nasties.

 Clearly a "Definitive" Guide

I like to think of myself as someone who's pretty well-read on the nasties debacle but I was completely blown away - the film encapsulates perfectly the time and the place. There's a wealth of information and archival footage I'd not seen before and it's all edited together at such break-neck speed. I truly believe that the documentary alone is the final word on nasties - and I still have the rest of the set to watch!

So, if you think you know it all about the video nasties scare - give this set a go - there'll be plenty of new anecdotes and information you've not heard. Whether you're a die-hard film collector, controversy-curious or even a student studying Britian's censorious past/government scape-goating, this really is an essential compendium. Flawless and brilliant.

Great Doc detailing a MAD MOMENT in U.K.film history

This is a brilliant Doc detailing the MAD situation that was the Video Nasty Debacle which took place in Britain in the early 80's.DISC 1:Gives us the intellegently presented doc. Also on the disc is a run through of other films seized but not prosecuted at the time. DISC 2 along with 3 centres individually on all of those films caught up in The Video Nasties List. Each one is accompanied by an intro from top experts/historians then the Trailer for that particular Movie. This set last 9 hours and not a minute is wasted.I have to say though personally I did find Discs 2&3 slightly more enjoyable than the main feature.Wait..............Enjoyable?...Maybe thats not the word im looking for.Brilliant Doc.A must for any Horror fan.
