Monteverdi's last opera is the story of the Roman Emperor Nero's love affair with the seductive Poppea. This sensuous and lyrical masterpiece is considered by many to be his best opera. Love wins through in the end, as Poppea succeeds in marrying Nero, but in doing so, we see evil truiphant over good, and question whether love is always a good thing.
