This is without a doubt the best film version of the Frankenstein story. For one thing it is the only film version where the people making it appear to have read the original novel. It is a faithful adaptation of the classic story. Atmospherically shot with some excellent sets you can really see where the money has gone.
Often put down by critics I believe this film has stood the test of time and has shown that it is not something that can so easily be thrown to one side.
The cast is fantastic with Branagh playing the part of the Doctor who creates the monster and De Niro excellently playing the monster itself and this is possibly one of the few film versions where you actually get to hear the monster speak in an articulate fashion, just as he does in the book, rather than the grunts and arm waving that KArloff was forced to do.
