Sofia Coppola's second feature-length film focuses on two guests at a Tokyo hotel--Bob (Bill Murray), a middle-aged actor in town to film whiskey commercials, and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), the young wife of a trendy photographer (Giovanni Ribisi) who is always out on a shoot. When Bob isn't on the job taking fragmented direction from the Japanese crew, he's receiving faxes on home decorating from his emotionally distant wife. And while her husband is away, Charlotte spends most of her time trying to motivate herself to do more than look out the window at Tokyo's urban sprawl. So when the two meet in the hotel bar, they strike up an unusual friendship, one that provides a welcome escape from their boredom and loneliness.
Nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and winner of Best Original Screenplay at the 2004 Oscars.

...You'll either love it, or hate it!
In my opinion, this is a good film. Murray is wonderful here as the "down on his luck" actor, travelling across the world to do a whiskey ad. There are some terrificly funny scenes, but the humour is dry and not "laugh out loud", so wont be for everyone. However, if you like films like "About Schmitt" or "The Weatherman"... You'll really appreciatte this. A beautifully shot film, with a good soundtrack, good leading lady, and a good ending.
The best movie ever!

Ok first, i hope to make my reviews true to the film. Providing online movie goers like yourself with honest opinions as best i can. So first off, this is not an amazing film nor the ultimate love story as some reviews might suggest. Its a good solid film but quite boring at times. The ending is the movies strong point because it brings about the emotion that the film provides throughout. If your easily bored id say stay away from this film. However Bill Murray is as funny as ever and worth the watch just for himself. Good film, a solid 7/10.
