This is easily Clint Easwood's best work since the masterpiece that is Unforgiven. The story is very haunting and harrowing and grips you from start to finish. Career best performances from Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon. It's an injustice that this movie lost out to Lord of The Rings at the oscars. But that's just my opinion.

This is a truly emotionally haunting, complex and disturbing film that seems to want to remind us that violence begets never-ending violence. The happenings seem to conjure up the concept of karma as I follow the lives of the characters, especially as in the case of Sean Penn's Jimmy. Excellent performances from Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon! Their characters - three friends - draw me deep into the analytical observation of their traits, behavior and circumstances. Quite easily in my top five films.
