The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring: In a time before history, in a place called Middle-earth, a dark and powerful lord has brought together the forces of evil to destroy its cultures and enslave all life caught in his path. Sauron's time has come and he needs only one small object - a Ring that has been lost for centuries - to snuff out the light of civilization and cover the world in darkness...

The Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers: The fellowship is now divided with Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John-Rhys Davies) helping to restore some order to the land of King Theodon (Bernard Hill), whose mind has been poisoned by the machinations of Grima Wormtongue (Brad Dourif). Wormtongue is a secret emissary of wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee), now ready to unleash his army of the night on Middle-Earth. Meanwhile, Frodo (Elijah Wood) is falling deeper under the dreaded influence of The Ring, as he journeys with Sam (Sean Astin) towards Mordor...

The Lord Of The Rings - The Return Of The King: The remnants of the Fellowship marshal their forces for one final attack as Hobbits Sam (Astin) and Frodo (Wood) are led by Gollum to Mount Doom in the hope of destroying the One Ring forever...

The greatest book to film adaptation ever!!!!!!!!!!

    | | See all plumbernator's reviews (66)

The Lord Of The Rings are 3 of the most exciting and magical books to ever be written. Now they are 3 of the most exciting and magical films ever.
With spectacular performances from a steller cast including Ian McKellen, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and Viggo Mortensen. But the real greats that make this film the masterpiece it is are Elijah Wood and Sean Astin. The make a perfect partnership and the disintigration of the firendship throughout the second and third films are truely harrowing.
The special-effects are hands down the best ever. The third film especielly produces some breath-taking momemts.
The films are good for there large and heart-felt adaptation to the original text. Its clear the Jackson cares more about what he thinks than what his audience thinks spending about 5hrs in the 9hr running time createing interesting and progressive character development, great for most, but the small amount that seem to think Popcorn flicks are the way forward may be dissapointed.
But the rest should be up-lifed. Jackson creates and entire new world using top-of-the-range SFX and the great sweeping landscapes of New Zealand. This is a must to your collection as a perfect example of mainstream Hollywood actually for once producing real brilliance!!!!

I know many years have passed since these films graced our cinema but £9.99 for all three!!?? What are you waiting for? Order it! The films are so well made, awesome visuals and special effects. The story continues well from dvd to dvd. Each may be over 3 hours long but I didn't notice that. Don't just watch them once, free yourself from distractions and settle down to take in the incredible trilogy. I paid quadruple this price and it was worth it.

I cannot believe the comments of the previous reviewer. Were they seriously watching the same films as the rest of us. These films are in a word phenomenal and Jackson has done the books proud. I couldn't ever grow tired of watching these films, particularly The Fellowship of the Ring. My only gripe is that my t.v. is nowhere big enough to do them justice. Ignore the last reviewer, get some munchies, sit down and let yourself be transported to a fantastic world of hobbits goblins and monsters.

If you have not seen any of these films, then there really has to be something wrong with you. The set location and soundtrack are enough to make it a 5* film, not to mention the A-list actors and actresses starring, and the unbelieveable story it tells.

The action scenes are monumental, and you really do notice how many of the newer films out now are copying the scale at which this film is groundbreaking.

If you are a true lover of the books, this film is not to be missed. Although many parts of the story that are vital for the books are left out, the director's choice really cannot be argued with! (Watching all three films simultaneously really does take the wind out of you!)

It should be obvious from common sense that if you want to watch any one of these films you should really get all three at once (saves a lot of time and money)

    Worth every penny!

The price for this gem is 12 quid now. If you don't buy it for this price then you are completely mad. If this set was 30 quid it is still worth it. Each film oozes quality and so good they are in a whole different league. These films deserve the awards they have recieved and the qulity of the DVD's themselves are good. They truely are blockbusters.
