Dog Pound is Scum for the 21st Century, a tough and brutal film set in a young offenders institute for teenage boys that the system doesn't know what to do with. The long-term inmates have built a rigid power structure based on fear and the guards use the prisoners to let out their own frustrations. Butch, Davis and Angel are new arrivals.

They have never met before but they all soon realize that the odds are stacked against them and that their only hope for getting through their sentences is if they watch each others' backs. But friendship will only get them so far when their endurance is stretched to the limit...

Kim Chapiron (Sheitan) directs a brutal and action-packed prison drama that takes a long hard look at the juvenile justice system.

A very good film, unusual for america to produce a film more of european genre and film noire. No buddy, buddy in this. An american version of Scum - but Scum will always have the edge for me.

although a thoroughly enjoyable movie,if tweaked a little and made less like scum, and added a little more of the revenge type scenarios,we would have had a little classic here.there were even characters in this with the same names(banks and davis)as scum.i know it says a scum of the 21st century but this was almost the exact film.very very good, but i preferred the original by some distance.

This excellent hard hitting drama is based on the British 80's classic Scum, but now is set in the states. This youth correction prison is a tinder box, where a blind eye is turned to the bullying of the weaker and the alph dog will survive. The prison tries to re-build these kids so they don't re-offend, but mainly they are bound to re-offend.
The acting by the unknown cast is brilliant, and you feel just as much sympathy for the main characters as anger of what goes on behind closed doors and when the lights go out. All this leads to a already tinder box situation that's about to combust into a fearsome back lash. The film is pretty short with a running time under the expected 90 minutes, but although short and the ending uncompromising and sudden, the film is very well made on it's limited budget and deserves to be seen.
