'The Backyard' is the terrifying but often macabrely hilarious award-winning documentary that uncovers the extremely violent and sometimes bizarre world of backyard wrestling.

Throughout the U.S. (and even the UK), director Paul Hough discovers that unofficial backyard wrestling groups can be found in almost any town. Made up of mainly teenagers, with a few twentysomethings, these groups meet regularly like real life 'Fight Club'. Armed with barbed wire wrapped around baseball bats, broken glass and thumb tacks, the film shows the wrestlers justifying why they risk permanent injury for an audience of usually less than three people, what the thrill of being set on fire holds for them and how to enhance the spectacle of bloodshed by taking aspirin.

Unquestionably entertaining, this is Jackass gone wrong and makes for compelling viewing!

 Thought it was a movie

I thought this was a fictional film about people fighting in their backyard. Beginning is rubbish then it gets good when it starts to show real fighting with barbed wire etc. A lot of it is fake, and there are some sad, sad people in the movie. The human Lizard! What a muppet. Worth a watch at an ok price.

The backyard wrestling scene has been growing all around the world at a vast rate, the more popular the WWE and TNA become the more kids decide to go out back and try some of their own moves.
This documentary shows us the scarier side of wrestling, the side which pushes all the boundries to a sadomasochistic level. A degree of wrestling which is all about tables, bats, glass, staples, barb wire and many more...
The movie focuses entirely on backyard wrestling, independant organisations where its nothing more than a group of friends willing to batter the hell out of each other, either for the hope of one day becoming a superstar, or just for the sheer fun of it!

Overall: The Backyard is an interesting and insightful dvd into the strange phenomenon which is backyard wrestling. It takes us into the minds of the wrestlers themselves, the supports and the family members who can only look on.
I feel this documentary would've benefitted from more involvement from pro's, other than Rob Van Dam there are no other professionals giving their opinions.
A good watch, will go nicely with other wrestling documentaries such as Beyond The Mat.
