Crime. Confusion. Compassion. They're all just states of mind.
Sensitive, fifteen-year-old Leland murders a young boy on the playground, his only explanation at the time being, "he couldn't stand the sadness anymore". As the boys' families cope with their grief, a teacher at Juvenile Hall encourages Leland to keep a journal. Together, Leland and his teacher make a journey of self-discovery and learn how Leland's present and past actions have had a profound, even positive, influence on the people around him...

Gets you really involved with the characters and shows an intresting percpective on life. Quite a sad film but is great to watch... if you have the right mind-set. Doesnt neccesarily make you think, but definately makes you feel for the characters. Not for everyone but great acting and great script so give it a go.
Could have been better

The film starts off great and leaves you intrigued, but by the end you feel a little cheated. Great acting from Ryan Gosling. Decent but not amazing.
