In an attempt to escape their predictable bourgeoisie existence, Lord Courtley and three equally depraved elderly gentlemen embark on the resurrection of Dracula. When the ceremony results in Courtley's death, the others flee, and the vampire begins a tyrannous campaign of revenge through the ones they love the most - their daughters! Seduction, corruption and romance are all entwined in this sinister tale!

Dracula as the good guy?

The first Hammer Dracula (fourth in the series) to place the character within the Victorian England of his creator. For those who want 'serious subtext' there is much enjoyment to be had watching Dracula influence the children of three corrupt and hypocritical Victorian gents into acts of murder and revenge. But for those who want standard Hammer stuff that's here too. Director Peter Sasdy stages some excellent 'shock' sequences which still pack a punch today. Hammer in it's prime.
