Tom Hanks is Chuck Noland, a man in a hurry. His job for Federal Express has him traveling the world on a moments notice, exhorting the company's employees to speed things up--"never turn your back on the clock." When he's suddenly called away for business on Christmas night, his tolerant longtime girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) drives him to the airport. They have their Christmas in the car--and Chuck plunks an engagement ring into her lap right before he gets on the plane, telling her, "I'll be right back." But an unexpected storm cuts the plane's crew off from radio contact and blows them off course. Chuck is the sole survivor of the resulting crash, and washes up on a completely deserted island. Stranded there, he must give up everything that he once took for granted and learn how to survive all alone in the wilderness.

From director Robert Zemeckis, CAST AWAY is a story of adventure and discovery surrounding one man's will to stay alive.

iwatched this film for the first time a couple of weeks ago after hearing good things from others. i can happily say i wasnt dissapopinted. It really makes you think about what you have and is , in my opinion, one of the best and most thought encouraging films i have ever watched. It is a must have on DVD, a true classic. :) it is a film that can be enjoyed by all the family, holding the interest of not jusrthe older generations. As said before, there are one or two occasions where you feel as though it lacks action, but the story of the film must be considered and understood that it is an intentional trait to encourage viewers to empathise with the main character ( played by Tom Hanks) and allows the film to be all the more poweerful and thought provoking.

I hope this has helped to encourage anyone who is thinking of watching this film, it really is one of the all-time must watch films ever made. :)

enjoy.. :)

Not usually my sort of film and i'm not really a fan of tom hanks either but this film and his acting ability are brilliant some parts do drag on a little bit and don't have much dialogue but are fascinating to watch as a normal person from everyday life adapts to being totally alone on an island and it makes you realise if you were in the same position how much you would miss the joys of everyday life so if you're ever annoyed with the way the world revolves again watch this and it should change your mind.
