Another brilliant British film this year. Surrounding the real-life events of the fight for equal pay in England, it is a determined and thought-provoking crowd pleaser.
The script is sharp, and a plethora of interesting characters propel what could have been something pretty bog-standard into something magnificent.
There are excellent turns from Sally Hawkins in the lead role, Bob Hoskins as seemingly the only male character to support her fight, an emotional turn from the ever luminous Rosamund Pike and surprisingly Jaime Winstone impresses, as does Angela Riseborough.
However, there is one who owns this show. Miranda Richardson stuns as the real-life politician Barbara Castle. It will be an outrage if such a talented performer, isn't rewarded with an Oscar in the Supporting Actress category next year for her brilliant performance.
Packed with wit, charm, but never losing sight of the serious issues at hand, Made In Dagenham is a glittering triumph. I defy anyone to not be smiling once its finished.
I loved everything about this movie, it has the best cast, a mix of everything you need to make a great film and then to top it off, the reasons for it being made, which i strongly stand for.
The trailer for this suggests a light comedy however there is much more seriousness to it. The girls are great and sally hawkins and the girl who played brenda were particularly good. The story gets a bit tough at points on the girls especially when the pressure increase on the women after the men lose their jobs. Roger lloyd pack has a powerful part eventhough it is real small. Really good dramedy
Once again a high standard British film from the BBC and others involved. It kept me transfixed for the whole 1hr 50mins! The acting by all concerned was brilliant, especially Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Miranda Richardson. The period dressing of the sets was spot on, even down to a lampshade I had the same when first married in 1968, aged 18! (However, I noticed a couple of dodgy out of period TV's.) The best thing is when you were there at the time and saw it unfold as it did on screen. 1968 was a hot summer that achieved a lot for us women.
As already pointed out by other reviewers, the initial appearance of this film is somewhat deceiving.
The Full Monty comparison on the sleeve does it no justice.
It confronts some serious issues political and personal and the whole thing is handled beautifully helped by a top class cast.
I did not expect it to be so powerful and moving and would recommend it to all ages to see this.
