Hollywoods major movie about the impact of HIV/Aids on relationships, family, friends and more significantly in this case ,the workplace. The ending of the film is inspired and as you would expect very moving, and is made more so with the use of a wonderful heartfelt song Philadelphia written and sung by Neil Young, that in my opinion was far superior to the more popular Bruce Springstein song, that is more associated with the film. Wonderful performances from Tom Hanks and veteran actress Joanne Woodward as his mother.

  Sad Story

Good film, Good Story, Very Good acting from Hanks and Washington (in a role he did not get enough credit for, and Supporting Oscar nom would have been about right). But as good as Hanks's performance is, it was nowhere near as good as Oscar fellow nominees Liam Neeson in Shindlers List and Daniel Day Lewis for In The Name of the Father.

This was the first film that i had seen Tom Hanks play a serious role in with films like Splash,The Burbs and The Money Pit under his belt i always linked him with comedy but he was superb in this tear jerker of a movie.
The film see Hanks play a lawyer with aids sacked from his job for having this disease by his bosses who hate the fact he brought such a dirty disease to their company.Denzel Washington plays the lawyer that takes on his case and eventually gets over his prejudice towards aids and the gay community.
This film tackles the aids and gay prejudice that was running high in the early 90's in America and is a really special movie that grips you and sucks you right in until the end.
I would highly recommend this film to anyone has it is truly fantastic and is so well acted by its lead roles.

The stereotypes and prejudices against the disease of Aids are blown wide open in the indisputable Philadelphia, which tracks the story, prosecution and fight of Hanks who is homosexual and has Aids. This film served both as beautiful and emotional cinema along with a perfect educational tool, wiping out all the misconceptions over this disease. Denzel Washington is on form here, and Tom Hanks fully deserves his best actor at the Oscars for this flawless performance.
