This series has come along way now and never fails to get old as long as there is plenty of bloody carnage and mayhem at the hand of death himself, there is plenty of it here, lots more original kills and gory scenes to make you whimper and squirm at the screen, the open sequence is not that great there has been better ones with previous films but its still great, this movie has the best ending out of the lot, a very awesome twist that is very unexpected and quite clever making it much more original and stand apart from the others, if youre a fan of the others then this is a must. Its good to see Tony Todd make a come back too, this is good horror popcorn fun and one of the best horror franchises that Hollywood has got left.
In a Final Destination film by now seasoned viewers of the franchise will be quite familiar what to expect and the fifth film offers just that.
After eight co-workers survive the collapse of a New York Suspension Bridge (in what's easily the best opening disaster sequence since the freeway pile-up in FD2) they find death is still waiting to pick them off one by one! And it does so in tried and true fashion! Gleefully teasing suspense out of every sequence it's for me much more enjoyable than the last film, even if the actors and the characterisations are about as one-dimensional as one can get.
I'd normally have given it a high three stars because while it's definitely the best one since Final Destination 2 for me, it also offers few surprises in it's mid-section, but I'm gonna chuck it an extra star simply because I really got a kick out of the final twist which - if this IS the final film - brings events full circle.
Great for fans of the franchise, probably quite average if you're not.
another final destination and hope its the last, and i say that as a big fan, i love the franchise but dont want too see it carrying on into low budget straight to dvd territory. usual array of cast we dont care about but lets be honest we watch these films for the awesome selection of deaths, and there some crackers in this. love the ending, which ties it up nicely and yep great to see tony todd adding a bit class, not great but worth a watch.
This 5th installment gets back on track after 2009's disappointing fourth entry. There's nothing much new here and fans will get exactly what they want, but what lifts this out of the "Seen it all before" bracket is the killer opening credits that kicks off this silly but thrilling entry. FD5 opens strong and it's a gory high note with it's destruction of the suspension bridge set-piece. The cast (as usual) all have victims branded to their forheads, but guessing how they wil kick the bucket is all the fun of the ride, as they get speared, roasted and splattered in spectacular fashion. On it's cinema release these were used to brilliant effect in 3D and looking at one of the lead characters who has the biggest eyebrows ever to grace the screen, in 3D those thing would be coming straight at ya enough so to tickle!.
A new fun twist to the rules means that would be victims can survive if they kill one of their comrades instead, and a script with it's tongue fermly in it's cheek, plus and an extra star is given to the unexpected dovetail climax, which hints that this could actually be The Final, Final Destination.
It may not be as fresh as the first film, but with some great new touches this is a great guilty pleasure thrill ride that fans should love every gore splattered minute.
