The living nightmare of the Lutz family. They got out alive!, but another family wasn't as lucky. They lived at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, before the luckless Lutz family, and what is the real history of this desirable family residence?

In a sequel to the original film "The Amityville Horror" which tells the true story of the Lutz family's chilling supernatural encounter, "Amityville: The Possession" dramatises other terrifying events which took place at the same house.

Not for the faint hearted, this is a tale of satanic possession that leads to cold blooded murder on a massive scale - you have been warned!

Totally disagree with the other review bout this film being laughable...its anything but!
Then again if you find satanic possesion, incest, domestic violence & mass murder funny then this is the very comedy for you!
For everybody else this is a very nasty horror.
Watch this and make up your own mind as to whether you think its just a crass effort at black humour or like me find it a mix of very disturbing subject matters.

 AN UNINTENTIONALLY FUNNY PREQUEL!

This prequel deals with the murder of the Lutz family and is set a year before the Amityville Horror.
This is just a over the top and over blown rip-off of The Exorcist! but it is very silly with bad acting. For starters the eldest son makes the excuse that the demons made him kill his family by telling him to do it via his sony walkman. Not content with stealing his step sisters knickers he ends up shagging her!
As for his sister just check out her eye brows, somebody should have told her to pluck them, but they do give the best performance in the film.
Just watch the so bad they are good scenes, as the camera follows the eldest son around the house as he tries to look terrified, laugh out loud has he wrestles with a gun on strings, watch in amazement as the table cloth fly's on strings to cover a crusifix. Yes the film is that bad,
but being bad has made it a very entertaing film.
There is even a overblown exorcism, that manages to be very funny as it is so over the top.
If you thought the original was a load of nonsence, this has to be seen to be believed!
So bad it's very, very funny. Sit-back and laugh at how seriouse the film thinks it is.

 A highly entertaining ghost story

Amityville 2 the possesion has a very special place in my heart. Even though i have only given it 3 stars in comparison with similar movies of the same formula such as The Exorcist or The Entity, which would gain a 4 0r 5 star rating in my opinion, does not make Amityville 2 a bad film. This film, a direct sequel to The Amityville Horror plays almost like a prequel as the story is loosly based on the real life events of the DeFeo family who occupied the house at 112 Ocean Avenue before the Lutz's of The Amityville Horror fame.
The movie starts as the house has recently been sold to the Montelli family. The cinematography in this movie is spellbinding and really gives a sense of eerieness and ghostly presence and the music amplifies this to an even greater degree. The special effects may not thrill by todays standards but do a descent enough job. Enough to convey the element of spirits haunting the house and moving the story along in the process. Burt Young (Convoy, Rocky) does an excellent job playing a strict Catholic father trying to keep order in his family. The gorgeous Diane Franklin who i had a crush on after seening this movie lights up the screen as the eldest daughter Trish, while Jack Magner who plays the main character Sonny gives a convincing enough performance of a man driven to insanity by forces beyond our world of understanding. If you like ghost movies and have never seen Amityville 2, give it a go. I saw this when i was around 13 or 14, i am now 36 and although i didn't find it very frightning it did capture my imagination relating to the existance of ghosts and their effect on our world and even more so their effect on our own personalities.
