Masterfully directed this film really manages to capture the tension Lau and Jeung are under in their undercover roles. The characters are three dimensional (much more so than in the Departed; which i found disapointing after having watched this previous) and the acting is very very impressive; no need for over the top amateur dramatics here.

Check it out. The good news is the sequel is just as good.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Shows the other side of Asia's Movies

I love Asian movies and have i quickly growing set and though i do like some of Asia's all out blood bath movies like Battle Royale and co. I also like it more cultured side 2 like this movie, ghost in a Shell and so on. This will really show you another side to their movies and that it is not all pointless killing.
This movie is a Intense and clever detective movie with lots of brilliant twists and turns. A must see for movies lovers of this type. Though you may find you can get lost at times and it is not for the faint hearted movie watcher or someone who wants just a pointless violence movie (if want that then, i think Battle Royale or Versus, will fit the bill) Also have to say, i think the Departed is actually a very good remake and will help you understand this movie's storyline better.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Best Film Ever....

quite simply the best film ever made. asian cinema is not all about shoot 'em ups and fisticuffs, this film is a tense intelligent thriller which keeps you hooked from the first minute till the last. as soon as it finished i was counting the minutes till the sequel was released.
i was disappionted when i heard hollywood was ripping off hong kong again, and even more so when i saw the departed!!
this is one of very few films which must be watched.

sorry but i love asian films - mainly for their culture, designs and action. i especially HONG KONG ACTION MOVIES. ....HOWEVER, this movie BORED THE HELL OUT OF ME!! i was waiting for some action or fisticuffs and... nothing i sat for an hour and a half till the skip button was being pressed! i wasn't gripped, i wasn't intrigued, i felt no empathy or emotions to the characters as i thought they were VERY wooden. no fisticuffs NO EXPLOSIVE action - i was the only person still awake watching it, waiting for something to happen! yeah, and the ending is crap too! VERY VERY VERY OVERRATED!

Best film ever and the true greatest story ever told

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars The start of a truely great trilogy

People who say that this film is the Asian Departed are very wrong, The Departed only scratched the serface of what this truely great trilogy is all about. America has jammed three films into one with Departed, which leaves alot of the story line the character history behind, I would go as far as saying dont even bother with The Departed, come straight to this film, you wont be sorry.
One of the greatest films to come out of Asia, and quite possibly one of the greatest made in the world, follows two men in the struggles to keep their identity secret from either the police or Triads. Amazing acting, outstanding script and direction, if you buy any film today make sure its this one!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Better than 'The Departed'

Dragonic | 14/06/2007 | See all Dragonic's reviews (34) »

Personally after seeing both films i would have to say that Infernal Affairs is a much better film than its American counterpart, that doesn't mean that i'm saying 'The Departed' is a bad film because it is quite the opposite, it's a good film in its own right.

For me Infernal Affairs at a 1hr 34mins running time means that the story can progress and still be fluent and fast moving, i found that 'The Departed' which was about and hour longer really got sluggish in parts.

Infernal Affairs is by far one of my favourite films to come out of Asia and would be recomended for anyone who loves cop/action films, or for anyone who has seen 'The Departed' so that people can see the remarkable film that spawned its American counterpart.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars The Departed by another name

This movie ended up being remade into 'The Departed' and this features the usual suspects of asain cinema, brilliant dialouge and set pieces but not as good as it's american cousin
