The effervescent comedian Jack Black stars in this double-bill of frantic and highly original films that will cement the actor's status as one of the rising comedy talents in contemporary film.
The School Of Rock & Orange County DVD boxset contains some of Black's best work to date and introduces audiences to the invigorating brand of comedy that the actor brings to his work. The appeal of Black's work is that the jokes are unpretentious and good-natured, presenting Black's characters as loveable yet ultimately banal men whose hearts are in the right place. Black is the friend everyone wants, the person who breathes life into mundane situations and strives to get the most out of everything, no matter how daunting it first appears.
Black's child-like music teacher in School Of Rock is an extension of his alter-ego front man from the fictional band Tenacious D: Black has a great understanding of the inner-workings of a true rock fan. His energy and commitment to the part drive the film along with a great sense of fun that engages the audience in the colourful character and his love of all things rock n' roll.
Orange County sees Black playing a slothful stoner who endeavours to help his brother fulfil his dreams and gain a place at university and study to become a writer. Black's ne'er-do-well character, Lance, sets off a chain of events that is a veritable comedy of errors and witty one-liners, with the actor stumbling around in the midst of the mayhem in a manner that echoes the king of screwball, the late John Belushi.
