Review

When Mr. Earnshaw encounters Heathcliff, a ragamuffin orphan, he kindly brings the boy into his home and makes him part of the family. Instantly Heathcliff falls hopelessly in love with the daughter of the house, the beautiful but headstrong Catherine. When a wealthy neighbor woos her, Catherine's material instincts overcome her adoration for Heathcliff and so she agrees to marry.

Yet, as time passes Catherine is to discover that she is unable to forget Heathcliff and not even death can part them...

I absolutely adore this movie. Olivier is a god and without a doubt this is one of my favourite films ever. This is THE best adaptation of the novel. Recommend it to anyone.

a fantastic film of its era. the acting of the master sir laurence olivier alongside merle oberne was perfect. the scenery & wind torn weather lent itself to the tortured story of love & tragedy . the music score in the final scenes was heart breaking . they surely dont make them like that any more

this is a classic film. Okay it is dated now and very old and the style of the acting is very different in some places to the way we expect things to be today. I do however feel that out of all the versions of this film made, this remains to be the best and greatest of them all.
Extremely atmospheric and wonderfully shot.
