The return of The Open to Royal Liverpool Golf Club after a gap of 39 years saw one of the greatest Championships of the modern era. A total of 230,000 spectators witnessed a display of near-flawless shot making by defending champion Tiger Woods, as he claimed his third Open title.
True links conditions of dry, fast-running fairways and firm greens were created by a heat-wave which provided the ultimate test for 156 of the world's finest players. On the eve of the fourth day a group of players from the top 10 in the world closed within striking distance of Woods.
Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Sergio Garcia were unable to reach the defending champion over the final 18 holes, but Chris DiMarco hunted him down to the very last green.
Yet Woods was not to be denied and his victory was as emphatic as it was emotional, as he claimed his first Major since the death of his father earlier in the year.
This film not only tells the story of Tiger's triumph over the world's finest players, but also provides the official and definitive record of the drama and excitement that surrounded the 135th Open Championship.
