  Doesn't fly so high

It may be nicely animated, full of bright sassy colours. It might have some fun characters and a game if overly qualified voice cast. It zips along at a quick pace and it has a killer song score from the legendary Sergio Mendes. But there does not appear to be anything particularly distinguished about Rio other than it being innocuous and a reasonably amusing way to pass an hour and a half. And try as they might (despite the best efforts of Jemaine Clement), it is almost impossible to turn a cockatoo into a mean villain.

From start to end my daughter (who is a little fussy) LOVED this film the music was very catchy and lively and just so entertaining we,ve watched it about 4 or 5 times and I never tire of it and now my friend and her 6 year old daughter love it too!! It's better than the other films!!! and my daughter isn't scared and doesn't have to vacate the room like some Disney films!!

Vivid, funny and a deeper message than most.

Great film for kids and adults alike with generous amount of humour, pause for thought and the now obligatory "Disney moral story" over-arching plot. All these fantastically animated films are just modern extensions of Aesop's Fables which we read as kids in the 70's and 80's ... and many people probably read before that.

My little one of 7 loved the vivid colours and change of destination from stereotypical USA-ville to Brazil. Along with the vivid colours came an abundance of questions from her related to jungles, the Rio Carnival, birds of flight and non etc ... so, really I missed out on the depth of the film and need to watch it again :) ... any excuse really to enjoy it again.

Better than the likes of Up and Megamind for me personally ... but not quite there with Despicable Me, Rango and Toy Story/MOnsters Inc.

  FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

What a really good feel good film for all ages. So many animated movies don't hit the mark this film is one of those GEMS you have to see. Funny and loveable characters lots of musical numbers if you don't enjoy this film then the kid inside you has vanished forever. BUY THIS MOVIE and watch again and again...

A decent, light, funny and extremely colourful kids movie

Rio is a cute, likeable family film, with some charming characters and a silly plot to keep things moving and entertaining. The musical elements are a welcomed injection of fun, and the Brazilian backdrops and scenes make the film feel refreshingly individual and upbeat.

The story surrounds a pet parrot that is the last male of the species. He is united with the last female blue macaw, but has to escape various kidnapping attempts. Being a pet he cannot fly, so relies on the help of his new friends, all of which are Brazilian birds. There is also a dog, monkeys and a nasty parrot called Nigel!

One of the better kids films of 2011, Rio is a bright, lively, modern animated escapade. Very Ice Age-esque.
