With a lush greenery and the searing heat evident in the Thai setting, this proves to be no ordinary Bullet Ballet from the off!
Ringo Lams under-rated action movie see's a fabulous Simon Yam equalling the Chow Yun-Fat mastery of the action sequence. Both look cool aside from the very outdated look of Yun-Fat in the early sequences. Gangster chic has not worn well in Thailand!

Lams action work match that of the legendary John Woo, but where Woo balances that with an emotional tidal wave of imagery, Lam steers down an altogether more sexual path, adding some spice to the gun play we dont often see in HK action cinema.

Frankie Chin is made to look silly at times which is a real shame as the extras prove him to be an articulate and intelligent man. That aside, a grand finale that brings together themes of revenge and brotherhood, bad people turning good and an un-requited love, hep to deliver a satisfying movie for the action cinema fan.

Chow Yun-Fat still looks cool (literally!) in a rubber fishermans coat in the best staged scene set in a loading bay stacked with ice blocks..........cool, very cool.

This is well worth checking out if not done so already; it wont define the genre, but it will remind you why you like it in the first place.
