Catfish

I am a faithful reader of Empire movie magazine and rushed out to buy this film after reading their review which said simply "unbelievable filmmaking" in the verdict and wrote about a major, mind-blowing and unpredictable twist.

There is definitely great filmmaking here, it's awesomely put together and the cast are great - particularly Nev. I was disappointed in the sense that, not just from Empire's review, word-of-mouth and other reviews, I was expecting a thriller-documentary and what I got instead was really a drama.

Not that this film is pants, it definitely isn't, I instead got a touching, powerful and upsetting little drama that DOES keep you gripped and once or twice really on edge even though it was pretty obvious to me where the ending was going in one or way or another, there was no big twist. It's a good little film but I wish I hadn't paid 12pound for it as it's maybe a film you watch twice. Buy it in a sale and don't expect it to be as good as the reviews.

The trailer, the reviews all sell this film as, and I quote, "gripping and jaw-dropping", "watch-through-your-fingers-scary" and the most misleading of all "the best Hitchcock movie Hitchcock never directed" . I was looking forward to watching this and being shocked, surprised and completely taken back by the films events.

Instead I could see exactly where the film was going and there was only 1 minute of the film where I felt it could be the start of a thriller, but it lead to nothing.

Nonetheless there is one quote I agree with "unbelievable filmmaking", this is true, very impressive and made to feel very believable.

All in all, a good film, with very expected and little twists. I personally found it more entertaining looking on Facebook for the characters of the film.

...by some of the other reviews! It is rated 12 after all, so not too sure why you would be expecting a "watch through you fingers" scary film! Brilliantly filmed and the twist is awesome! Watch this!

Unfortunately you will probably not get to see this film without someone ruining it for you, if you do get the chance however you shall enjoy. I had never watched a film where i could actually feel my heart racing with the pace of the movie until i watched Catfish. Incredible idea with incredible ending, 5 stars.

Hard to write a review for this film without giving away too much. Suffice to say that it's a gripping and intriguing film that has plenty to say about these times of technological abundance and it's impact on human relationships.
