The Avengers, the hip secret-agent series from 60's TV, is reinvented for the movies with a stylish blend of wit, fabulous retro fashions and effects-packed action.
Ralph Fiennes is the very dapper John Steed and Uma Thurman is the smartly catsuited Emma Peel, two secret agents who fight crime with style. Sean Connery portrays Sir John De Wynter, an evil genius out to control the world with his high-tech weather machine. The madman poses quite a threat to mankind with his raging icestorms, scorching temperatures and mechanical buzz-bombing bees. But come cold heat or dreaded plight our two heroes never lose their cool. Tea anyone?

This film gets a lot of negative reviews, but honestly it doesn't deserve them. It's a beautifully crafted film which is faithful to it's TV source material and presents The Avengers in a big screen adventure that blends the style of the TV show with intelligent storytelling.
Made me physically sick...

What on earth was everyone thinking when they decided to finance this car-crash of a movie? The cast, including Sean Connery, Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes, are capable of so much more so quite what possessed them to appear in such disasterous fare is beyond me. To find ONE good point amidst its laboriously painful running time would be a virtual impossibility - with quite deplorable FX, inept storytelling and scriptwriting and the sense that the actors MUST know the film just isn't any good 'The Avengers' is probably one of the worst films of all times, it's certainly amongst the Top 5 lamest adaptations of a successful television series of all time. I only went to see this film because I had some time to kill, in retrospect spending a couple of hours in a public toilet would have been more stimulating. One of my life's biggest regrets, I still have nightmares about it to this day...
