In the year 2029, interstellar reconnaissance missions are relegated to chimpanzee pilots from the Space Station Oberon in deep space. On such a mission, a chimp loses communication and vanishes from the radar. Fearless astronaut Leo Davidson launches a rescue mission and, following a malfunction, lands on a jungle-like planet not unlike the Earth. To Leo's astonishment, English-speaking apes and primitive humans inhabit the planet. Following his capture by the apes and subsequent escape, Leo assembles a small band of defiant humans and empathetic apes in an attempt to re-establish contact with Oberon, but his focus changes following an unexpected discovery. Armed with this new information, Leo leads a rebellion against an overpowering ape force that will result in freedom or complete annihilation.

Great remake but should have stayed faithful!

I'll just start out by saying that if you are only going to buy this only because of fond memories of the original, you may be disappointed. When I heard that this absolute classic was going to be remade I was thrilled. But with good news there must be bad and in this case it was that Tim Burton was directing it. But if I'm honest he actually didn't do a bad job! I was enjoying most of the film up until about three quarters of the way through when I realised that he had made a fatal mistake. You know the groundbreaking scene where the leading man sees the Statue of Liberty jutting out of the ground and comes to the shocking conclusion that he is actually on Earth? It's not here. Why the hell would you leave out one of the most revered moments in cinema history!? Sigh...but gripes aside, this wasn't a bad film at all. Incidently, have you ever seen a more pointless role than that of Helena Bonham Carter? Three guesses as to how she got her part.....

 Bargain!!

At £3.99, this DVD is a bargain. Fantastic movie, good acting, good storyline. Better than the original. Definately worth every penny and at £3.99 why not buy it? You won't regret it!

This must go down in history as one of the most pointless remakes in Hollywood history and lets face it, there's been a few.
This woeful remake, reimagining-what ever you want to call it, gets very few things right, most notably being the total miscasting of Mark Walberg as an astronaught-he is utterly out of his depth and unconvincing and appears to have been given the role simply to attract the teenage demographic.
Burton can't be blamed solely for this traversty of a movie, as he was mearly a Director for hire after several years of development hell and other Directors having passed on the project(most notably James Cameron).
Blame must surely be directed at the writers of this shambolic mess of a movie, who should be held up as examples on how to murder a classic. The most obvious example being to take ever ounce of intelligence, social/political allegory and wit that was present in the original book and subsequent 60's movie adaption and reduce it to the substance of a particularly moronic action movie. The film makers even fail to come up with anything even remotely close to the final iconic image from the original.
This is a film to avoid at all costs unless you are of a masochistic nature or you derive pleasure from watching a classic movie being mangled to death.
Do yourself a favour and pick up the totally in a different league original and pretend this version never happened!
It barely scrapes 1 star and that's just for the impressive make up and special effects.
And lets face it, any movie where a Chimpanzee acts the human star of the screen, you know you're in trouble.

I just watched this movie and it left me speechless i am lost for words how good this movie is. It appeals to lots of different people with the spectacular battles, science and super acting this is an amazing film and it is quite cheap so buy it. Another amazing Tim Burton movie. Best director ever.
