This is one of the few exceptions of a comic strip being transfered to the big screen that really works.
This has one of the best openings (interms of action) Ive seen since the days of Terminator 2...the underground nightclub sceen is just brilliant and Wesley Snipes is perfect for the character of Blade ....the sequel is even better which is rare these days but the third installement ...well....it started off badly.....tailed off in the middle..... and the less said about the end the better !
Wesley Snipes in one of his best

Wesley Snipes was perfectly cast as the lead in this movie and it is a great all round vampire action movie. Stephen Dorff also filled the adversary role very well.
The movie has a banging soundtrack and the intro sequence has to rate as one of the best introductions to a character on an action movie.
Unfortunately CGI towards the end and at the very end is a little disappointing and a let down. As a DVD, this ranks amongst one of the poorest in terms of picture quality that i own. Very disappointing on that front.

This is just brilliant ! The night clube scene at the start is a classic movie moment, at the time nothing like it had ever been seen before. People always state that The Matrix created Bullit -Time, they are wrong, this movie did it a year before. The action is brilliant, giving way to John Woo style shoot-outs and fights. All the action is set around a techno soundtrack and sends the action into another dimention. Wesly Snipes is a revalation as Blade and creates the coolest movie character in years. Dorf is a good villan as the evil vampire wanting to take over by raising the blood god. The vampire culture is explored, and using there own language and markings creates a very unsettleing underworld. Also look out for the brilliant creation Pearl, a Jabba like vampire that should join wait watchers. The only reason I marked the film down to 4 stars is the ending, with the flying skulls, it feels out of place with the rest of the film and should belong in Raiders of the lost ark, and not this lean mean killing machine of a movie. This is a very minor gripe as the rest of the film is just sheer eye scorching brilliance.
A must buy !
Blade is right up there in my top 5 film of all time. I love every second of this film. The opening is one of the best on cinema history, its just so damn COOL!! Back when I first watched this film for the first time I knew nothing about Blades character or story but I was completely hooked for the entire film.
Wesley Snipes is brilliant in this role and once you have seen it you really can't picture anyone else being able to play this character as well as he can. Stephen Dorff is also excellent in his role. This is in my opinion the best vampire film ever made. Don't miss out on it!

I would like to start with this review with the brilliant casting of Wesley Snipes to play the dark vampire slayer 'Blade'. Wesley Snipes has truly not done a better film than this apart from probably 'New Jack City', which is also a resoundingly good whole round performance. he was definatelly one of the great black actors of the 90's. But this film really did highlight his career as a great actor as a whole. This film also has a great supporting cast, with the dark evil vampire really controlling each scene with moral evil and gusto. Also good supporting from Blades allies and enemys giving this film a well acted feeling. 10/10 for acting.
The action sequences are definatelly a force to be reckoned with for this film because there so brilliantly done leaving the audiance emotionly and physicially drained at the end of this film. And especially the memorable scene at the beginning which really sets the film into motion to its end. Brilliantly constructed action wise which leaves it flawless and to be a great contender as one of the best action/horror films of all time...apart from Blade II. 10/10 for action.
The storyline is fairly affective but because of the action it does get rather cluttered but its obvious to know what the films about so audiances dont be rattled too much about that. Basicially Blade has to stop this evil vampire taking over the world, a farily well used ploy of plot but hard to actually contend with unless fully delivered, and believe me this delievers. Storyline 9/10, good but then when youve got so much action in a film who cares...
And the final verdict is that the film is brilliant directed, with action set-pieces gallore, well acted and with a storyline that delievers what more is there 5 stars right?
wrong...the ending is way to different to the action motion throughout the movie and does dissapoint the audiance a little. So i decided to give this film 4/5 stars because it delivers and delivers well but the ending could of been improved. But trust me still a great movie and a great contender for the best action/horror of all time. Perhaps beaten by Blade II...
like this? try Blade II
Best Marvel comic into screen movie. Plentry of OTT bloody action, burst out excellent opening scene in blood disco (you'll see). Wesley Snipes is perfect for this role of Blade. Plot not really needed here. Apart from that, everything works here. Fast and exciting all the way. Get this DVD now.
Loved it

What a film...
I'd heard about this film from my friends, but I finally saw it and it's awesome!!
The film starts off with blade invading a vampire party (it sounds lame, but it's not....the vampires start going wild when the sprinklers start spraying blood all over them) and he uses a number of weapons in the process!
The rest of the film is gripping and well thought out

Blade is one of marvels best characters,Wesley Snipes bursts onto the screen as the vampire hunter seeking the vampire who made him what he is,along the way he hunts all other vampires despatching them with a variety of weapons.Snipes brings the character to life with his broody persona, and at times vunerable side.Stephen Dorff does a fantastic job with playing Deacon Frost: Blade's arch enemy. This movie is one of the marvel gem's that has us coming back for more!!!!!!!!

'Blade' kicks off in quite stunning style with the lovely Traci Lords leading an 'innocent' young man into a warehouse. Inside, a party is taking place with loud music pumping from the speakers. And then it happens....the sprinklers kick in and literally bathe the partygoers in thick, red blood revealing them for what they really are - blood sucking vampires. And then Blade turns up and proceeds to kick ass in quite astonishing style. Back in 1998 when I first watched 'Blade' I knew little about his character and backstory but my eyes were instantly glued to the screen the second this kung-fu kicking, sword wielding badass turned up. Taking the vampire mythology and giving it a modern boost by way of Shaft results in a fantastic slice of action adventure. As the half man/half vampire Daywalker Wesley Snipes is perfectly cast, certainly not the most loquacious of fellows but damn...he sure is one cool mutha. Steven Norrington (who went on to direct the less-than-successful adaptation of 'The League of Extraordinary Gentleman') here cuts loose with an action packed film of great style and originality. Some of the effects are beginning to show their age (though the film is nearly 10 years old) but the film itself heralds a fantastic debut for one of Marvel's lesser-known creations as well as a pulse-pounding action film in its own right...
wesley needn't do anything else but play this role, clearly at home as the tortured warrior.this film is brilliant a small 'MARVEL' character made big by this exciting movie.focusing on a half human half vampire's struggle to rid the world of every vampire to walk across his path. such brilliant cinematography sets a tone that echoes through each of the Blade films.comic book fun at the highest degree can't fault it kicks butt!!!!
