Essential viewing - gripping from start to finish - yes the effects look dated , and the acting is ropey at times , but all that goes away after about 10 mins . If zombies are to rise up - this is exactlly what it would be like . And if you step back in a shopping mall - this film is what youll see - gore and crappy makeup aside!!!! Awesome film - if you jhavent seen it , where have you been?
Overrated.

If you are new to zombie movies and are a more typical horror/slasher movie fan then stay away from this. I love horrors from the 70s/80s but this movie sucked in all honesty, dont let the other ratings fool you. It drags on for too long, very boring and just not scary in the slightest. Overrated. You have been warned!

This has to be one of the best sequels ever!
This carries on the story of the dead rising from the grave. Man kind is in desperation as the world falls into chaos. The dead are rising, people flee the cities. It's only a few who hide out in massive shopping mall, who see at first hand the END OF DAYS.
This is without a doubt the best of George A.Romero's classic Zombie movie's. This is what Aliens is to Alien. Godfather 2 to Godfather. Even the terrible blue/green painted Zombies have a charm.
The script is very clever, and the tension out does anything in the rest of the series. This is the greatest horror movie of the 70's.
But as hard as it is to say it,the 2004 remake is actually better!
Alot of DieHard fans of this original movie will hate me for saying that, but it is true. But you cannot buy the remake without buying this.
This is a perfect 1970's horror classic, and a must buy for any horror/Zombie fan!
The best horror movie of all time

Yet another master piece from the horror master, George A. Romero. He pulled off this film spectacularly, i remember my dad went to watch this in pittsburgh for the preview. It shocked even him, and he loves horror movies. The effects are spectacular, exploding heads, hundreds of zombies. Absolutely fantastic. This is a must buy for any horror fan.

Released in 78' this film still kicks ass now. It has many undertones and on the surface is a plain zombie flick but delve deeper and hidden meanings become clear America's paranoia and consumerist issues anyone? This was Romero at his brilliant best let's just forget Diary ever happened a George!
The opening of Dawn Of The Dead is simply terrifying. Inside a T.V. station we hear fragments of news of the growing zombie epidemic but are never shown what they are reporting. Instead we see the collapse and panic of the reporters and crew as they struggle to comprehend the incomprehensible.
Romero's film simultaneously evokes the fall of Saigon-helicopters evacuating the last Americans from the U.S. embassy, the shocking urban decay of the seventies and its effect on their poor ethnic populations, and the growth of rabid consumerism in the West.
Dawn in places seems lighter in tone than Night Of The Living Dead but the message and final outcome remain the same; one of doom for all of us.
BEST FILM EVER MADE

I've seen this film so many times now, friends of mine are actually worried about my sanity!
I'm a massive Romero fan, and actually have the Region 1 triple disc special edition which has been transferred direct from the digi master, and has all three versions of the film in one box! The original theatrical edition, the longer and gorier extended edition and the European version with a radically different score!
This is the theatrical version of "Dawn", and although not the version you've seen on BBC2, with the added gore, this is Romero's preferred cut. This is basically, a more cohesive and faster paced version of Dawn, and it still ranks as one of the most inventive horror films ever made alongside Raimi's Evil Dead Trilogy, and on a bigger budget level, the Alien series.
If you haven't seen it already, what the hell are you waiting for?! And definately watch this before viewing Zack Snyder's hugely entertaining remake. This is the original monster mash! Perfect baby, perfect!
