This is a great disaster movie, and is without a doubt better than Volcano (released later that year) Pierce Brosnan tries to warn the beautiful little town that there big mountain is about to go boom, of course nobody pays any notice to his warning until it's too late.
The only person who pays any notice is single mother Linda Hamilton, and romance starts to bloom, but this was not the Bang that Brosnan or Hamilton wanted!
Of course this is a disaster film, so there is the odd corny moment, but the bult up, to the erruption is great. But when the mountain does blow it's top the special effects do still amaze, using brilliant CGI and minature model work to jaw dropping effect.
The final scenes of the devastation are amazing.
If you want to see a great and quite accurate account of the destruction a volcano can couse, this is it. Of course you have to suspend realism in some of the action sequences, but thats all part of the fun.
A great nights entertainment.
