There's been a fair few remarks that essentially call 'Real Steel' 'Rocky'....................with Robots. Which basically is what it is. It's not as good as that film but at the end of the day it remains watchable enough family entertainment.
In the near future Robots fight both each other and sometimes animals in a kind of WWE extension into robotics. Charlie Kenton and his robot run around barely making ends meet on the circuit until he is reunited with his son Max and over one summer, Father and Son both get to know each other and get a shot at the title.........
.............once you get round the initial dubiety of Hugh Jackman's character's motivations and attitude of course. Which I found a little surprising that I was supposed to sympathise with him but..........the film asks that we do. From then on it becomes that sort of film that in fairness most of us could write ahead of time, but it's solid enough and the reliable Hugh Jackman knows how to anchor this sort of film. Add in excellent visual effects and what you have is a film that more than passes a couple of hours.
Extras are a bit slim, but apart from that good enough entertainment.
