Brian De Palma's The Untouchables is a must-see masterpiece: set to a classic Ennio Morricone score, this is the glorious and fierce depiction of the larger than life mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago - and the law enforcer who vowed to bring him down.

This classic confrontation between good and evil stars Kevin Costner as federal agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as gangland kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery winning an Oscar as Malone, the cop who teaches Ness how to beat the mob: shoot fast and shoot first.

The film that got Connery his Oscar but there is so much more to admire here. The film is beautifully shot with a fantastic authenticity to it. Costner and De Niro are also magnificent with De Niro piling on the pounds to add realism to his role. The musical score is superb adding excitement and drama one minute and leaving a sombre mood the next. A great film from a great director. Worth getting whether you're watching it for the first time or adding to your collection.

This is a great larger than life depiction of the mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago and the law enforcer who vowed to bring him down.
This classy gangster movie starts Kevin Costner as Federal Agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as the gangland Kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery as Irish/ Scottish beat cop Malon who teaches Ness how to beat the Mob.Not forgetting a star making turn from Andy Garcia.
The film is great and feels like a old gangster film of the 30's and 40's. The film is brilliantly directed by Brian De Palma, and the shoot out in the train station is a master class in suspence and direction. But the film is never as gritty as it should be , and it plays loose and fast with the actual facts. But as a action thriller this film is brilliant.
A must buy for any gangster movie fan!

 Untouchable!!

I picked up The Untouchables through sheer impulse. I'd never seen any clips, any showings on television, or read anything to do with the plot or characters. So I went into this completely unbiased.

One of the captivating points of this film is that it focuses primarily on the federal agents of America, and their struggle in bringing down the crime lords that are overrunning their country. Whereas other prominent mob movies, The Godfather, Scarface, and Goodfellas depict the criminals as the 'protagonists', or anti-heroes of the film.

As federal agent, Elliot Ness, Kevin Costner really digs into the role, and as the film progresses his descent into desperation is excellently portrayed. Sean Connery's also a stand-out as a veteran cop who becomes almost like a mentor to Ness. Whilst giving him harsh truths about the plans Ness has for capturing Al Capone - he also demonstrates loyalty, and fullfilment to the end
.
There has been criticism of Robert De Niro's portrayal of Capone, and also for some excusable reason - Sean Connery's accent. But it's easily overlooked as it's Connery's ACTING that shines through, and De Niro is rarely seen in the film....

With those extremely minor glitches out of the way..... What else can I say? It's a beautifully contstructed movie, with a superb mix of heightened drama, tension, comedy and emotional provocation - to say the least.

Be safe in the knowledge that Brian De Palma has not only directed a masterpiece in the mobster genre. But also a great piece of modern cinema.

 I love this film !!!!

I don't know whether it is me, but this dvd is really good. Better than that, it is brilliant.

Elliot Ness (Kevin Kostner) is such a good actor and is such a good choice to have in this film.

This film has such a great story line, about Al Capone and trying to get him sent down.
Brilliant acting by most actors in the film

I recommend that this is a must buy

should be 100 stars though

My favourite film of all time. Every actor plays their role better than any other could have. Nothing can be said about this film other than it is sheer brilliance.
