Mani Ratnam's 'Yuva' is one of the most awaited films of 2004 and is bound to experience good results. This splendid film from Mani Ratnam, one of India's finest directors, tells the tale of three young men and the twist of fate that brings them into contact with each other. Superb acting, and some invigorating music anchor this gritty story. The film also contains 6 of the biggest Bollywood actors and the music is by non other then the star of `Bombay Dreams' A.R. Rahman.
'Yuva' is about three young men from three different strata of society, with three different views towards it. Confused? Hold on.
Ajay Devgan is Michael Mukherjee, a child prodigy who is invited to America to achieve his PhD under Nobel laureate Weinberg. Michael is violent and cannot tolerate anything he believes to be wrong.
Esha Deol is Radhika Michael's love. She teaches French and studies politics. While Esha is keen on marriage, Ajay wants her to move in with him, not believing in the institution of marriage.
When the three young men Lallan, Michael and Arjun are brought together by an accident on the Second Hoogly Bridge, their lives change irreversibly. Their change, their conflict, and their interactions with each other is the crux of the film. The film examines the lives of these three men and their families and the complex relationships between individuals who are very different, yet so similar.
Among the female leads, the film stars Rani Mukherjee, Esha Deol and Kareena Kapoor paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi respectively. Sonu Sood, who won critical acclaim for his performance as Shaheed Bhagat Singh, is playing the main negative lead in the film. Ratnam's favorite A.R.Rehman has composed the music of the film while Mehboob has written the lyrics.
