All 24 episodes from The X-Files Season 4, further testing the relationship between Scully and Mulder, this season sees both the agents struggling with personal demons in their battle against the Government's deepening deceptions.

The prophetic words of the Alien Bounty Hunter haunt Fox Mulder as he struggles with the near death of his mother and the murder of a mysterious informant. Even the return of Alex Krycek and Max Fenig is overshadowed by Scully's devastating illness. Yet even as these tragedies strengthen Mulder's belief in a growing conspiracy, a startling revelation makes him suddenly realise how his search for the truth jeopardises the lives of those who care for him the most.

     The beginning of the peak!

For me you can split the X Files' 9 Seasons into 3 groups...
Seasons 1-3... the classic X Files seasons
Seasons 4-6... the best X files seasons, when the episodes and stories hit thier peak
Seasons 7-9... the poorer seasons, still entertaining but loose their touch

So, in my opinion, season 4 is the beginning of the X Files peak! The mythology takes interesting and new twists and the other episodes are very entertaining and high quality.

The seaon opens just where season 3 left off with the second part of the Jebediah Smith story, "Herrenvolk". After this the season gets straight into gear with the brillaint and quite freaky episode "Home" which was actually banned from being shown on TV for a time! As far as the rest of the season goes revelations and twists are in abundance in the mythology episodes "Tunguska" & "Terma", "Memento Mori", "Tempus Fugit" & "Max", "Zero Sum" and the season finale "Getsemane".

One of my favourite episodes of the season and the entire series is "Musings of A Cigarette Smoking Man" which gives a deeper and quite saddening look into the life of our chain smoking friend. "Teliko", "El Mundo Gira" and "Leonard Betts" provide some scares for the season and comic relief comes from the brillaint episode "Small Potatoes", also not to be missed are "Paper Hearts", "Kaddish", "Unrequited" and "Demons". Obviously, as with any season there are weaker episodes and, for me, "The Field Where I Died" and "Sanguinarium fall into that category here.

Truly a season to be remembered!

Gets a bit dull mid-season, but this is still great stuff

Season Four encapsulates some of the very best 'horror' episodes, such as Home and Teliko, and also one of the better Samantha/Mulder stories - Demons. Small Potatoes is also one of the better attempts of comedy epsodes in the X Files. The season gets a bit dull in the middle, with a run of pretty aveage episodes, but it picks up again towards the end.

     Have Rediscovered a Classic!!

Found a boxset of X Files Series 3 that I'd forgotton I had, watched it and am now hooked again!! Series 4 follows on nicely from Series 3 and there's a real mix of episodes which I enjoy. I'm no X Files expert but I do think Series's 3,4,5 are the stand outs overall.

Essential for any x file virgin or fan!

This is when the glue came together for Chris Carter and co. This is the season that contained shock horror (Home), heartache and emotion with Scully's cancer and to match its perfectly balanced ratio of heart and sci fi a high octane finale puts the icing on the cake! This is an utmost essential as it captures the perfect essence of what the X Files is and after this it was good but never the majesty it portrays here!
