from this season on the horror starts decreasing and the storyline starts focusing more on the characters' familiar situation and later on, the apocalypse. I liked it better this way because every episode continue with the previous one so it keeps you hooked to the end.

Following on from the unexpected events of the previous season, season four of Supernatural continues to go from strength to strength. Building up to the end of the shows original arc (planned to be completed in season five) the creators have yet again been able to combine excellent development of the characters and mythology with some fantastic stand alone episodes.

Never afraid to take risks the writers are able to become self referential without ruining the atmosphere of the show and the two leads are as watchable as ever. Just make sure to also order season five as you will want to see the conclusion to this story.

  Supernatural Season 4

When Eric Kripke created 'Supernatural' in 2005 he had a specific five year planned story in his head, each season building closer and closer to his end game.

Season 4 of the brilliant 'Supernatural' continues that trend in spectacular and twisty fashion! At the end of season 3 Dean was forced to pay the terms of his deal that had resurrected Sam in the previous year. However, it's not revealing any spoilers to say that despite his death - he quickly comes back again!!

But, who brought him back? What has Sam been doing for the months in which Dean was gone? Just who is manouvering the brothers and what is the endgame? Personally I think this has been the best overall season since season 2. The continuation of the overall arc is compelling and contains more twists and turns that still threaten to drive the Winchester Boys apart (as has been hinted at from early on in the series mythology) and season finale is an amazingly strong conclusion that will leave everyone gagging for the start of Season 5!!

But - Supernatural is NEVER all doom and gloom! Not since The X-Files has a genre show had so much fun combining stand-alone episodes, an over-riding arc and blissfully enjoyable self-referential episodes laced with humour. This season is little exception, with 'In the Beginning' the best stand-alone show (where we find out the truth about Mary Winchester), and the all black & white 'Monster Movie' with a raft of traditional horror monsters, and out of the stand-alones I really also enjoy 'Family Remains' which might remind viewers of the movie 'The Messengers' but is much better and features former Supergirl actress Helen Slater. The arc episodes have to be seen to be appreciated and I can't pick one out except the two last episodes are (I think I said already!!) fantastic!
