At a time when the BBC realy took pride in its childrens movie length productions, it came up with this fantastic series which slotted in perfectly with their Narnia series already out.
The Box of Delights is a deep and dark childrens fantasy following a young boys struggle against the forces of evil. It cricles around a box, a magical and powerful box which can be used for good and evil, which is given to the young man called Kay Parker.
He must protect this box and get it back to its rightful owner, along the way hes chased by cloaked men and magicians posing as priests right up to wolves and rats the size of men.
Its all made with that classic BBC feel, animated special effects and high quality direction and acting. Its a typical beautiful tv series. Its Original broadcast was in 6 30 minute episodes.
I remember this was fond memories, covering up and watching this late xmas eve as a kid, a definate for any kids out there who love Harry Potter or Narnia, or those who have a fondness to the BBC productions.
This is a wonderful story that is suitable for all of thefamily- young to old. This masterpiece captures the real feel of christmas, its magic, with great acting from all.
It ages well and i feel this is one of the best productions the BBC has made, its a pity they don't make more like this!
This is one of the BBC's finest productions. I have loved this film since I was a child, it comes out the cupboard for a build up to that magical time of the year.
The film lets your imagination run away with you, good v's evil and with no inapproriate language. I would recommend this as a great family film snuggled up on your sofas with a cup of hot chocolate.
It is however very long, originally played out by the BBC in parts, if you have very small children you may want to watch this in sections.
I hope you enjoy this film as much as I have.
I have watched this every year for as long as I can remember on my old video player. This year I decided to buy the dvd but when I played it the other day I found that unlike the video, this is in episodes rather than running as one long film. It's not a bad thing but its rather irritating having to watch each episode then fast forward to the next one. Why couldn't it have been made into a whole film like the video?
I still love it though.
