In 1943, the Germans opened Stalag Luft North, a maximum-security prisoner-of-war camp, designed to hold even the craftiest escape artist. In doing so, however, the Nazis unwittingly assembled the finest escape team in military history – brilliantly portrayed here by Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson and James Coburn – who worked on what became the largest prison breakout ever attempted. One of the most ingenious and suspenseful adventure films of all time, The Great Escape is a masterful collaboration between director John Sturges, screenwriters James Clavell and W.R. Burnett, and composer Elmer Bernstein. Based on a true story, The Great Escape is epic entertainment that “entertains, captivates, thrills and stirs” (Variety).

I think for an old film this is great i meen im only 19 and this is one of my favourite ever films its got a very clever story set in the war a large group of prisoners plan and work together to escape out of a large german prison camp but geting out of the camp is only the first part of there worrys.*****
The true story of the plotted escape from the Prisoner of War camp is an endearing classic that I've watched so many times, and couldn't tire of watching. Gripping acting, genius tunnelling and an unforgettable soundtrack are just a few things which make this film legendary- watch it for yourself to see this immense film, with Steve McQueen and Richard Attenborough in one of their best roles.
