After a supposed suicide attempt involving a bunch of aspirin and a bottle of vodka, Susanna Kaysen sees a psychiatrist who recommends and pressures Susanna into placing herself into a mental hospital. Whilst there, Susanna first keeps herself to herself until she finds a friend in Lisa Rowe, a sociopath dedicated to regulated escapes and putting the staffs' patience to the test. After her boyfriend attempts to help her escape the mental hospital and take her away to another country, Susanna realizes that she needs to be in the hospital and refuses. As time goes on, the truth about one of the patient's conditions is revealed and Susanna is forced to choose whether she should continue following Lisa's lead or get her own life back on track.

Fantastic acting from all the characters - especially Winona Ryder (Susanna) and Angelina Jolie (Lisa). Love the storyline, and was pleased to find that after I'd read the book, the film was very true to it.

Deffooo recommended :)

I wasn't too sure when I was buying this film if it was for me with its largely female driven plot. But I was pleasantly surprised with this and found it to be a heart-warming story centred around the confused and isolated psyche of a young woman while also briefly expressing some of the other psychological struggles of the others patients within the asylum. The soundtrack I feel works immensely with this film, as it has been carefully chosen and it accurately maintains the mood particularly the song how to fight loneliness by Wilco. All in all a great film and a steal at only £2.99.

it's such a fantastic film, it makes you feel so frustrated, you'll have so much empathy for Winona's character! I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to any female! :D xx

Firstly I'm just going to nit pick and point out that Susanna doesn't check herself in, she's practically forced there after a short talk with a psychiatrist.
Anyway. This is possibly my all-time favourite film, simply because it's emotionally rich, it makes you laugh and cry in even measures, the characters are all well crafted (although based on real people in Susanna's book, some elements have been changed), and it'll leave you questionning where exactly is the point where something normal becomes "insane", and just what is mental illness?
A must see. For £2.99, you'd be mad not to buy it.

"Girl, Interrupted" is an oddly warm and fuzzy mental hospital movie . This movie is based on a book written by Susanna Kaysen. The movie stars Winona Ryder as Sussanna Kaysen, a woman searching for the meaning of her life and the struggles she goes through to find it in a mental hospital. The direction is slick and the leads are beautiful and act well. Ryder does a fine job of portraying a girl on the edge of instability, even if she does employ the same brow-stitching anxiety accouterments she's put to use in what must be a dozen other films. It takes some time to feel comfortable with the problems of the main characters but you will begin to see what a well-handled study of madness, 'the System' and unhealable sadness this film is. This film rewards repeated viewings because it is emotionally rich and absorbing.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder, winning combination!

This film is so good, funny in some bits, uplifting, thrilling, and at some points, a little scary. But it's so interesting and I've watched it so many times and might just go and watch it again thinking about it....

Didnt think I'd like this film at first as not a huge Jolie fan however after watching this film opinions chage completely.

Funny, upsetting and many more emotions are the best way to describe such a film.

All who are in this film play it so true to life it truly is fantastic.

I'd definitely advise anyone thinking of this film - buy it - you wont regret it
