City banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) arrived at Shawshank Prison in 1947. Convicted of two brutal murders, he received a double life sentence and discovers that when they send you to Shawshank State Prison for life, that is exactly what they take.
Within the confines of Shawshank, Andy forms an unlikely friendship with the prison "fixer" Red (Morgan Freeman). He also becomes popular with the Warden and the prison's guards, as Andy is able to use his banking experience to help the corrupt officials amass personal fortunes.
With an extraordinary twist in the tale, Andy finds that survival comes down to a simple choice: get busy living or get busy dying...

The Shawshank Redemption is a very moving story about hope and the power of friendship. The cast is absolutely first rate with everyone at the top of their game here. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman carry the movie but its James Whitmore's portrayal of Brookes and elderly inmate that really touches me everytime I watch the film.
As the film progresses you get to know each charcaters very well and you start to understand the reasons behind what they do (Brookes in particular)
This film keeps you glued to the screen the entire way through and has a great twist towards the end. Its a simple story elegantly and cleverly told. A modern classic.
THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE.

I wish I could have given this film 6 Stars because it is in my opinion the greatest film ever made ( & yes that includes Star Wars or LOTR Trilogys). This is a complete one -off. The writing is first class & the acting is even better. How this never won an Oscar, I will never know. Simply superb!
