Fergus (Mark Womack) returns to his native Liverpool for the funeral of his childhood friend Frankie, a fellow private security contractor who has been killed on "Route Irish", the deadly and now infamous stretch of road between Baghdad airport and the Green Zone.

Route Irish is a fast-paced conspiracy thriller that delivers a fresh insight into the moral and political corruption at play in Iraq.

 Profound and hard-hitting

Provocative, profound and hard-hitting. Blending between film, documentary and real footage of the war in Iraq, this film astounds with its ability to suggest what we all already know - that the War is somewhat run by governments for the benefit of multinational corporations.
Fergus is a character who starts off all bristle and energy, and we slowly see him emotionally decay as pressure take its toll. Great acting.
Knowing people who were contractors in Iraq, they have confirmed how close to reality this film sails.
A hard-hitting docu-film.

 Ken Loach - hero

Okay, two points. One I am a huge fan of Ken Loach and will not hear a bad word against him which may not make me the best reviewer of this film. Two, although this may not hit his best work like Kes or Hidden Agenda it once again is a movie that has the guts to take on uncomfortable contemporary issues. The acting is very good - Mark Womack, Andrea Lowe and comedian John Bishop providing strong characterisation. Paul Laverty's script, although not the most subtle he has provided for Loach once again shows his commitment to a cause which, although not everyone's cup of tea, must be applauded for its honesty and attempts to make the viewer think. This is not a comfortable film but a worthwhile one. May Ken Loach long continue for the film world needs him.
