Doomed Love, a fairytale set for disaster. One's fairytale ending is anothers tragedy. It is a brutally honest movie which packs a punch to the heart. The movie follows a couple several years following the birth of their daughter, and their marriage. The movie shows flashbacks of the past, how they got together and the how the romance and love flourished. As the movie goes on you see the milk turning sour and the hard times beginning. It's a brutally harsh movie about love; the happiness and misery it brings. A must see movie, but don't expect a fairytale ending

  true reflection of real relationships

Gotta be honest..one of the main reasons I bought this was to get my fix of the lovely Ryan Gosling.. but anyway onto the film.. Such a raw emotional rollercoatser ride of what a real life relationship is. As someone else has pointed out this is not a happy film, no comedy. Beautifully acted By Ryan and Michelle. I could understand why some people might think the film is slow and a bit boring at times as I did also think this myself in parts. But overall a brilliant movie and a true reflection of what a lot of relationships are like in the real world. Definitly worth a watch :-)

It's not often you get a love story which combines true romance with the painfully honest side of relationships, but this film manages to do just that. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams give standout performances, playing their parts with depth and raw emotion, and the cinematography has a beautiful quality to it. Definitely one of the best films of 2011.

I thought this film was brilliant, it isn't easy to watch and I found it very sad but so powerful. Performances from both Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are fantastic.

  Realistic love

Blue Valentine gives us a realistic potrait of transient love. A true to life , bitter sweet story of love found and love lost. Set in present day, with flashbacks to their courtship, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are perfectly cast in their roles as dean and cindy. Witness both of them falling in love and then the inevitable break down of communication due to time, busy lives and other unfathomable reasons that remain a mystery to us all. If you are looking for a romantic love film such as the notebook - this is not it, however - what it does do is deliver to us a much more realistic love story that most of us, however painful, would still be lucky to encounter. A must watch but you won't be skipping for joy at the credits!

A stunningly acted drama from first time writer/director Derek Cianfrance, starring Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling as a married couple teetering on the brink after a few years together.

Told partly in flashbacks the film moves between a final weekend the couple spend in a motel which brings the couple's relationship to a head, and the time years earlier when their relationship began, allowing for the contrasts in their feelings towards each other to be clear to the audience.

Williams and Gosling create one of the most emotionally believable relationships I think I've seen in a long time, improvising many scenes and creating real people, not mere characters, in their work. Williams deserved her Best Actress Oscar nomination for the role and she's just one of my favourite actresses out there just now.

It's not a happy film, it won't make you feel good, and as such maybe not for everybody, but if you are in the mood for a small film of this type, then it will offer a compelling and emotionally draining look at two people who just can't be together anymore.
