I loved this movie good action bit of horror and comedy. Huge Jackman was awesome and David Wenham was great comic relief. It's a sham people took it so seriously

A firm favourite in the 'Friday Night' flick part of my DVD collection there could be so many reasons to rip this film apart but in spite of all it's OTT-ness I've enjoyed it many a time.

In fact, it's probably the OTT that makes it work so well. Director Stephen Sommers has always been of the 'what does subtle mean?' school of blockbuster film-making and Van Helsing is no exception as our mysterious monster hunter (a strong as ever Hugh Jackman) gets sent to investigate various shenanigans in and around the Castle of local beauty Anna Valerious (a stunning Kate Beckinsale).

Cue appearances from Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, The Wolfman and some edible locals and you have two pacey hours of CGI-filled pulse pounding adventure that rarely stops to take a breath. And at 3.99 it's very much a solid bargain!

Kate bekinsdale and hugh jackman were perfect for the role, the vampire brides were too, as was the werewolf - but dracula and frankenstein were absolutely shocking to watch!!! i just cannot believe the absolute mismatch of acting capabilites in this movie!!! would have been so much better with better actors!!!

A deliberately over the top legends of lore movie which is action packed from start to finish. Vamped up to the max, it has plenty of bang for your buck but very little personality.

Although deliberately OTT you still can't help thinking that they went a little too far in places and should have concentrated more on the plot instead of the effects!

Fun & enjoyable, but not as good as it could have been. 6/10

Has evil finally met its match? Legendary monster hunter Van Helsing is sent by the vatican to distant Transylvania, a land terrorised by the powerful Count Dracula. Joining forces with a valiant Gypsy Princess who is determined to end an ancient curse on her family by defeating the infamous vampire, Van Helsing continues his quest to rid the world of evil. Directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) and starring Hugh Jackman (X-Men) and Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbour). Van Helsing defines the legends that are Count Dracula, The Wolf Man and Frankenstein,s Monster in this action adventure. A re-invention of Universal Studios classic monster movies for a new generation. 3/5. d:-)

The film isn't great but it isn't bad either. You follow Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) as he kicks supernatural butt with tons of great effects and costumes. A classic it aint but still worth a watch!
