A firm favourite in the 'Friday Night' flick part of my DVD collection there could be so many reasons to rip this film apart but in spite of all it's OTT-ness I've enjoyed it many a time.
In fact, it's probably the OTT that makes it work so well. Director Stephen Sommers has always been of the 'what does subtle mean?' school of blockbuster film-making and Van Helsing is no exception as our mysterious monster hunter (a strong as ever Hugh Jackman) gets sent to investigate various shenanigans in and around the Castle of local beauty Anna Valerious (a stunning Kate Beckinsale).
Cue appearances from Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, The Wolfman and some edible locals and you have two pacey hours of CGI-filled pulse pounding adventure that rarely stops to take a breath. And at 3.99 it's very much a solid bargain!
