The 80s are back and it's criminal!

Series 1, 2 and 3: The follow up to Life On Mars, Ashes To Ashes sees the return of DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister)! But he's no longer the self styled 'Sheriff Of Manchester' - drawn by the action and intrigue of the London Met, Gene's turned his attentions to taking on the 'southern nancy' criminal scum! He is joined by his faithful sidekicks Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) and Chris Skelton (Marshall Lancaster). DCI Alex Drake is thrown into the mix - after suffering a horrific accident in 2008 she finds herself in 1981 alongside Hunt and his team.

This is the best show that has been on tv in years, I have all three and watch them frequently. The only thing I found disappointing was the fact that it ended.

 Utterly Wonderful

I'd just like to reassure anyone thinking of buying Ashes to Ashes that not everyone has the negative opinion of the last review. I thought it was completely addictive and wonderfully done. In fact, I watched all 24 hours in 10 days because I *had* to know how it ended and it was really, really clever and really well done. I never thought it would be as good as Life on Mars ... but now I think it's even better!

 Excellent show

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Not perhaps as good as Life on Mars but it is a series that grew on me and well worth it for the ending that ultimately ties it all up and explains what it is all about. Well worth it.

Keeley Hawes spoils it, Season 3 worst & not Life on Mars.

Some people must have had high hopes from the follow up to the great Life On Mars, but that SADLY, has not been the case this was indeed a pretty bad serial & what spoiled it was the main female character, Season 1 kick off fairly well, with some good storylines, but 21st Century London, covering for the 1980's, was not really going to work was it, with the Millenium Dome popping up. Season 2 carried on from where Season 1 with the addition of another time traveller, played by Adrian Dunbar, whom terrorises the female lead, towards the end of Season 2, but ends up in a coma, still in the 80's, which leads us on to Season 3 which creates more questions than answers when it comes to the mystery of what really happened to Sam Tyler, another annoying character turns up with the introduction of Danny Mays DCI Jim Keats, who goes up against Phillip Glenister Gene Hunt's character, when solving particular crimes, which really did not add up, silly plots that do not make any sense whatsoever & generally really odd which made the ending of this serial not making sense as The Talking Heads may sing about. I felt the Phillip Glenister Gene Hunt character had lost a lot of interest during the making of Ashes to Ashes & was just waiting for it all to end, as I were, waiting for his payday/retirement with the usual PC nonesense, starting to come in & through it spoiling, that word again, what could have been an excellent follow up to Life on Mars, with this hence my 2 star avoid rating**!!
