Takako Matsu (K-20: Legend Of The Mask) plays a middle-school teacher whose four-year-old daughter is found dead. Shattered, she finally returns to her classroom only to become convinced that two of her students were responsible for her daughter's murder. No one believes her, and she may very well be wrong, but she decides, nevertheless, that it's time to take her revenge. What happens next is all-out psychological warfare waged against her students in an attempt to force them into confessing what she knows in her heart to be true: they are guilty and must be punished.

Brilliantly building the psychological tension from the film's very start before pulling out all the stops for a devastating and explosive finale, Tetsuya Nakashima (Kamikaze Girls) has produced what is arguably his most mature and impressive work to date. A superb script, excellent performances from a fine cast and a perfectly pitched soundtrack (that includes tracks by Radiohead, acclaimed Japanese experimental rock band, Boris, and this year's Mercury Prize winners, The XX) make Confessions one of the most original and impressive films of the year.

I'll Confess, This Film Is Outstanding

After viewing the trailer i was hooked, if you've watched it you know what i mean. If you haven't, go check it out......... seriously go now!

If this film was in the English language it would be winning awards and the media attention would be massive. It's a shame that because it's Japanese this will go relatively un-noticed. It's a psychological thriller based on revenge, very tense due to the fact it involves a school environment. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat as you're never sure what will happen next. It's beautifully shot, very artistic compared to other Japanese films i've watched. The soundtrack is superb and very fitting with the mood of the film. The ending is sensational, really well done and shocking. This maybe my favourite Asian film, simply faultless and i can't recommend this highly enough.

Buy it and spread the word, this film must be watched in it's original form......... before Hollywood destroys it with a poor remake!

 Brilliant Movie, Truly Outstanding

A subject matter which can't be taken lightly, a movie based and revolving round the murder of a teachers daughter by her own pupils. It's a dark topic which only Japan would be brave enough to take on, and they do an amazing job of it.
The story is well written, the opening is hard hitting with the story being thrown in your face quickly. The story begins to develop after the late opening credits taking you through a number of confessions. The story begins to slowly infold infront of you with each corner shocking you even more.
It's a thriller which grabs you instantly and won't let go, even after the the end credits have started rolling the movie will still be gripping onto you.

Overall: It's a serious movie which is written well, acted well, and performed well. It's a movie which gets you in the heart and in the head, it'll stay with you and keep you thinking for days.
Still proving Japan are some of the best inovative minds in cinema.
Recommended!

Confessions is an excellent piece of cinema, playing on the mind as only Asian cinema can. With an outstanding cast and carefully chosen cinematography, this film keeps you gripped without the need for dramatic scenes or gory shock tactics.

Confessions follows the perspective of 4 of the key characters, the teacher and her students. As the plot unfolds the viewer is taken back and forth in time, but not so much the story becomes difficult to follow. Though the conclusion isn't too surprising, the journey is worth the ending as it takes the time to explore the characters and what has led them to their actions.

It is a long film, and perhaps there are one too many slow motion scenes, but the lighting is effective and music is used to it's full extent in adapting mood. There are moments of gore but they do not dominate. There is certainly a Battle Royale theme to this film, of a teachers revenge on unruly students, but this film is much calmer and darker, making the evil actions of a few enough to warrant revenge.

 gripping psychological thriller

It is a brilliant and very orignal psychological thriller which gets you hooked from the very start. With all the Japanese originality I have come to love from films such as Battle Royale or other Asia etreme films such as Oldboy. Very enjoyably brutale and clever.

You gripped all the way through the film with it's twists and turns keeping you guessing all the way to the end. It is a must see film for anyone.

 Highly Original!

This film looks fantastic & has a soundtrack to match, the acting is superb though the story does go a bit overboard at the end. A must see if you like Japanese films. 4 1/2 out of 5.
