With the League Championship trophy already back at Goodison Park for the first time in fifteen years, Everton travelled to Rotterdam for the second leg of what was very nearly an unprecedented treble. The Toffees' opponents in the European Cup Winners' Cup Final were Rapid Vienna, and the Austrian side were very much the underdogs after Everton's victory over Bayern Munich in the semi-final. Rotterdam was a sea of blue and white as Howard Kendall's men chased their first ever European trophy.
