Based on the bestselling book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin, this sprawling new HBO drama is set in a world where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime.

From the scheming south and the savage eastern lands, to the frozen north and ancient Wall that protects the realm from the mysterious darkness beyond, the powerful families of the Seven Kingdoms are locked in a battle for the Iron Throne. This is a story of duplicity and treachery, nobility and honor, conquest and triumph.

In the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die.

 Truly Epic

Turning a set of epic fantasy novels as complex as George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series was always going to be a daunting task that could easily have ended in disaster. Fortunately the creators of Game of Thrones have not only lived up to expectations but excelled them. Featuring multiple story lines, each packed with numerous important characters, most viewers who haven't read the novels will find the opening few episodes tough to follow (I know I certainly did!) but stick with the show and you will be rewarded.

Featuring a fantastic cast including the likes of Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey Game of Thrones biggest achievement is in maintaining a narrative pace that keeps you engaged even during long scenes of dialogue, of which there are a lot. All of it always feels as though it is required though with much explanation needed to lay out the geography of the seven kingdoms, as well as the various families and dynasties that are fighting for control of this world. In amongst all the explanation there is plenty of sex and violence but unlike many shows it is always there to advance the plot and the ten episodes set things up perfectly for what is sure to be an epic second season.

Throwing all the established television rules out the window Game of Thrones is the best original series in a long time. If you haven't yet watched it this is a must buy.

 Winter is coming.....

and there isnt a better dvd to cuddle up on the sofa with. This has it all great cast, scripting and special effects. Of course it helps that it is based on an epic book but like so many epic books it could have translated badly onto film. This is gritty and realistic with believable characters and nail biting endings. If you love your fantasy miss this serious at your peril. Pick a side Lannister or Stark and revel in their triumphs and share their defeats.
Winter is coming.....best get this DVD before the snows come...

 Superb

Knew little of the books or tv series. Friends had been going on about this show for ages (friends with normally notoriously bad taste) so I ended up picking up this box set to see what the fuss was all about. I was transfixed within minutes. This is without doubt one of the best tv shows I have ever seen. The storyline, acting, costumes, scenery are top class. Moving in parts, gruesome in others, shocking and sometimes sexy. Sadly, I got through the 10 episodes within one weekend. Cannot wait for series 2!

 Not for me I'm afraid

If you like a in depth drama with lots of plots then Game of Thrones is for you. I can clearly see this is a well made series but it was just to in depth for me and too many sexual references. I was lead to this originally because a review I read said if you liked Lord of the Rings you would like this. Now I am a great fan of Lord of the Rings but did not like this, just a warning too anyone who has heard similar reviews that you may not like both.
