I originally had no intentions of watching this film let alone buying it, but then I got curious, so I picked it up for a couple of pounds.
I'm very pleased that I did, I think this gives a very good account of what happened or what may have happened in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana.
There are excellent portrayals of The Queen (Dame Helen Mirren), Prince Phillip (James Cromwell) and Tony Blair (Michael Sheen), strangely enough there is very little screen time given to Prince Charles, which I found a little strange.
I was never a great fan of Princess Diana, nor for that matter Tony Blair, although it does not harp on about how "wonderful" Princess Diana was, it does grind on me a bit how much they appear to credit Blair as if everything that was handled well was down to him sticking his nose in to that was none of his business, mind you he was always very good at that, so I can quite believe that he did make a nuisance of himself toward the Royal family.
I can well believe that both The Queen and Prince Phillip were sick and tired of Blairs constant interference and pestering too.
Overall though a great effort that tends not preach, but attempts to give a good account of what was happening in the country at that time, I think they succeed in doing this very well indeed.
Very good

A well-made film which details the lives of the Royal Family during the time of Princess Diana's death.
Helen Mirren portrays the Queen very well and makes the 'character' extremely believable.
A good film, even if (like myself) you are not a hardcore Royalist.
Brilliant

Although I'm sure most of this film is based on speculation I thought Helen Mirren portrayed the role brilliantly - she also has a very eerie resemblence to the queen. A truely Oscar winning performance. I think a lot of people will find this film comforting as the death of Diana had such an impact and people wanted to know that the queen was affected as much as they were.
This film follows the Queen as she goes into hiding during the week after Diana's death. It is poignant, well directed and very well wriiten.
Helen Mirren depicts the Queen in such an outstanding way, she is so suited to the role, and it is quite scary at how alike she looks to the Queen!
There is also an outstanding performance from Martin Sheen as Tony Blair, who has just become Prime Minister and is doing everything in his power to convince the country that their Queen has not let them down.
This is a very well written docu-drama, which raises a few questions as to what the Royals really thought of Diana but also portrays them in a different light. Definately worth watching. Highly recommended!

What do we know about the Queen? How would she react in a crisis?
How much of this portrait of the Queen is true I do not know but nonetheless Helen Mirren is just wonderful in the title role, coming to terms with something which is, for once, outside of her experience and understanding. When Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) stands up for her and her values it really does bring a lump to the throat. All the supporting cast are good too, and lets hear it for Sylvia Syms who is a hoot as the Queen Mother!
A fantastic and interesting look at the mind of the Monarch

This superb, untold story of what happened behind the doors of the Palace after the death of Dianna is undeniably interesting.
Not being that interested in the Monarchy myself i appraoched this with much caution but i found myself enthralled by the tale.
Helen Mirren (the greatest actress of today by a country mile) is spellbinding as is Michael Sheen as newly appointed PM Tony Blair.
This film is an interesting, emotional portrayel of a woman we never knew and justly gave Mirren the Oscar she deserved. A top quality factual drama.
very interesting!

Starting on Tony Blair's induction with the Queen after his 1997 landslide, the film depicts the crazy week of Diana's tragic death, as Tony Blair battles with a grieving public, the Queen goes into hiding in Balmoral with the young princes.
Helen Mirran is outstanding as the Queen, but Tony Blair, played by Martin Sheen is equally as brilliant as he trys to stop the Chaos. I love the scene where he puts Alistar Cambell in his place.
Royalist or not. You'll love this movie.
A Royal spectacle

I was really pleasantly surprised with this movie. Her Maj' took a lot of stick around the Diana death saga, and this movie portrays her in such a different light to the way the press did at the time (and still do). I'm sure HRH enjoyed watching it too! Helen Mirren is outstanding.
Helen Mirren deserves every award
